Item Open Access EFL TEACHERS’ PERCEPTIONS OF STRATEGIES TO FOSTER CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS IN ONLINE EDUCATION(Suleyman Demirel University, 2020) Junisbayeva S.; Smakova K.The significance of critical thinking skills is highly recognized in foreign language teaching worldwide and in the Kazakhstani state curriculum of secondary education as well. However, the COVID-19 crisis obliged most educational institutions to adopt an online form of instruction, which is new for most teachers. Thus, this study analyses the Kazakhstani EFL teachers’ perceptions of fostering critical thinking strategies in online teaching during the pandemics with the aim of investigating how EFL teachers view the core concepts of critical thinking skills and the strategies implemented during online lessons. Employing semi-structured interviews, qualitative data were collected from ten non randomly selected EFL teachers. The findings reveal that teachers are aware of the core concepts of critical thinking skills and the strategies that can be adapted and implemented online. However, while using certain strategies to develop critical thinking skills, teachers encounter challenges that require greater support to overcome.Item Open Access EFL TEACHERS’ PERCEPTIONS OF LESSON STUDY IMPLEMENTATION IN SECONDARY RURAL SCHOOLS THROUGH THE INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH(SDU University, 2023) Ichshanova Zh.; Kassymova G.Lesson study approach is widely used in various countries to develop teachers’ pedagogical and instructional knowledge. Students have learning responsibilities on their own, whereas teachers’ role is considered to be as a consulter. Thus, students need to identify their own learning goals and regulate learning process themselves. All these and other strategies are included to the self-regulation strategies. Zimmerman (1990) found out 14 SRL strategies which influence on academic achievement. However, teachers also need to promote these strategies during and out of classes and encourage EFL learners to use them in different contexts. The qualitative research investigates to what extent EFL teachers of senior grade students encourage their learners to use SRL strategies. In results, the study presents teachers’ more preferable SRL strategies for senior students to achieve academic achievementItem Open Access FINDINGS IN ADAPTATION OF FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT TO ONLINE EDUCATION IN EFL CLASSES: SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ EXPERIENCE(2022 International Young Scholars' Conference, 2022) G. Mussina; Kh. DelovarovaAbstract Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, all modalities of learning assessment had been strongly dependent on students' physical presence – either for administration or for observing the learners' daily progress. Current school closures necessitate development of alternative approaches to delivering the critical feedback function of learning assessment. While all types of assessment of student learning are important, the need for formative assessment right now is particularly critical because learning needs to take place outside of the physical classroom, and teachers and parents-turned-teachers need to understand whether students are absorbing the content that is delivered to them in formats that differ from business-as-usual.Item Open Access THE USE OF AI CHATBOTS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING: A COMPREHENSIVE LITERATURE REVIEW(SDU University, 2025) Bagdaulet Abykhanov; Mehmet Ali YaylaciArtificial Intelligence (AI) has become one of the most significant technological advancements and is widely integrated across diverse fields. In this regard, foreign language education is no exception: AI-powered chatbots are frequently used as language-learning tools. AI chatbots are software applications or websites that enable two-way interaction via textual or audio output. Despite rapid advances in AI development, there has been a lack of studies on its application. Therefore, this literature review aims to examine previous studies on the implementation of AI chatbots in foreign language education, focusing on EFL teachers’ perceptions. To achieve this aim, 20 articles were chosen for the review. The articles were selected from several databases and research platforms, namely Google Scholar, ERIC, and Sci-Space, published over a three-year period between 2022 and 2025.
