Abstract

This study examines motivational factors influencing the choice of physics as a major among Kazakhstani university students. A 24-item questionnaire adapted from Meli et al. (2018) was administered to 216 students, measuring three domains: schoolbased influences, informal learning experiences, and career motivation. Confirmatory factor analysis confirmed a robust three-factor structure (CFI = 0.948, RMSEA = 0.062). Results indicated that academic performance and inspiring teachers are the primary drivers, while family role models play a significant role among female and fourth-year students. The study provides Kazakhstan-specific empirical data and offers actionable recommendations for curriculum policy and teacher training.
