Item Open Access TIME SERIES ANALYSIS TO FORECAST COVID-19 CASES IN CENTRAL ASIA(СДУ хабаршысы - 2021, 2021) Tabarek R. ; Murat B. ; Kaiyr A. ; Smadyarov N. ; Issa D.Abstract. According to the study, the cases are expected to increase in the upcoming days. An exponential rise in the number of cases is also noticeable in a time series analysis. The current forecast models are expected to help the government and medical professionals plan for future circumstances and enhance healthcare system readiness. The proposed study employs a support vector regression model for forecasting the overall number of deaths, recovered cases, cumulative number of reported cases, and regular case count. The starting information is retrieved from the Ist of March to the 30th of April, 2021 (61 Days). The model predicts deaths, recoveries, and the total number of confirmed cases with an accuracy of over 97 percent, and regular new cases with an accuracy of 87 percent. The findings point to a Gaussian reduction in the number of cases, which may take another 3 to 4 months to reach the bare minimum of no new cases registered.Item Open Access AN ANALYSIS OF PIAAC SURVEY ON KAZAKHSTAN - GENDER, LEADERSHIP, EDUCATION AND SKILLS(2021 International Young Scholars' Conference, 2021) Yelibay M.; Halasz G.Abstract This paper aims to analyse factors predicting who will occupy leadership positions in Kazakhstan, by exploring variables such as gender, skills, level of education, and family background. The skills that are referred to in this study are competencies assessed in the PIAAC survey of Kazakhstan from 2017. The author will estimate a model whether holding leadership occupations depend on gender, family background and skills, such as numeracy, literacy and the use of ICT at workplaces. In summary, a research perspective that focuses on skills in terms of what people do in work contexts can expand conclusions drawn about leadership. Research results indicate that strategic thinking which result in literacy, numeracy and ICT skills are important for leadership. The study supports existing Western research on gender, leadership, education and skills with an analysis of big data. This empirical research adds findings to the existing data from the Central Asian context, particularly to the sector of gender studies, leadership and education.Item Open Access CHINA`S ECONOMIC AND SECURITY INTERESTS IN CENTRAL ASIA(Қазақстан ғылымының дамуы мен келешегі жастар көзімен - 2018, 2018) Akyngaziyeva A.A.For Central Asia, when entering the world market economy, it is especially important to study the peculiarities of the development of mighty China as a neighbor, as a partner and as a competitor. Living in a globalized world, this region needs the integration and regionalization of the post-Soviet states, which by combining their forces will be able to hold back and hold, as well as to combat these external and internal security that our regulators face such as drug trafficking, extremism, separatism, ecological and other social challenges.Item Open Access From Regional Integration to Soft Institutionalism: What Kind of Regionalism for Central Asia?(Integration Processes and State Interests in Eurasia, 2018) Kairat Moldashev; Ikboljon QoraboyevThe first term of Shavkat Mirziyoyev as president of Uzbekistan, has opened the country to higher levels of cooperation with its neighbours. Mirzoyev’s proactive position towards strengthening cooperation in Central Asia and support of other regional states has since 2017 attracted the interest of scholars to the dynamics of regionalization in Central Asia. The consultative meetings among CA leaders, cooperation among their governments’ strategic think tanks, and official discussions on mutual visa recognition between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are all evidence of increased collaboration in the region. Experts and journalists in the region have started to talk about regional integration in Central Asia and the possibilities for establishing a regional organization. Although the progress in cooperation has been significant, we argue that it’s not feasible and not necessary to create regional organizations at this stage, and suggest soft institutionalism as a possible way of strengthening relations in CA. Two main research questions addressed in this paper are: (1) Why do we need a new debate on Central Asian regionalism? (2) What kind of regionalism project is viable for CA?Item Open Access Post-Soviet dynamics in the Central Asian region(Suleyman Demirel University, 2021-11-22) Aizada Nuriddenova; Baltabayeva GaukharItem Open Access Internet and New Media Use by Central Asian Citizens Before and Towards the End of the COVID-19 Pandemic(SDU Journal of Media Studies, 2025) Yerkebulan SairambayThis research examines the differences and similarities in the Internet, chat room, messenger, and social media use by citizens in Central Asia before and towards the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Five stans –Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan –have varying levels of authoritarianism and media usage, especially new media use, might differ among these countries. Drawing on Central Asia Barometer, I demonstrate such comparisons over three years using data collected in 2019 and 2022. In addition to this, I also analyse the frequencies of Internet use by Central Asian people and which chat rooms, messengers, and social media were used most often in the region. The results and analysis show that by the end of the pandemic, citizensof all five republics began to use the Internet more, albeit in different volumes, compared to 2019. Accordingly, the frequency of use of new media (chat rooms, messengers, and social media) was also positive with varying degrees of difference.Possible explanations for these results and the usefulness of this study are discussed.
