Item Open Access Integration of STEM into the process of teaching mathematics to middle school students(SDU University, 2026) Kassymova D.This study examines the effect of STEM on the academic performance in mathematics of fifth-grade students in middle school. The research design included an achievement test and a brief questionnaire. The study involved two groups: 12 students in the control group and 13 students in the experimental group. The achievement test, which included a pre-test and a post-test, measured students’ performance before and after the STEM education. In the control group, students were taught using traditional teaching methods, while the experimental group was taught using STEM. Analysis of the achievement test results showed that the experimental group achieved significantly higher results in mathematics compared to the control group. This, in turn, demonstrates the effectiveness of STEM in improving students’ mathematics performance. The questionnaire was administered to the 13 students in the experimental group before and after instruction. The results showed that after participating in STEM-based instruction, students demonstrated improved understanding of mathematics. These results indicate that STEM-based instruction not only improves mathematics performance but also has a positive effect on students’ understanding of the subject. These two advantages highlight the importance of integrating STEM into the mathematics curriculumItem Open Access Investigating The Effectiveness of Extra-Curricular Activities in Chemistry(SDU University, 2026) Bagytzhanova A.KThis study examines the effectiveness of ECAs and the level of student motivation on academic performance in chemistry classes. The theoretical foundations of extracurricular learning and its role in shaping motivation were analyzed. The review highlighted the importance of integrating scientific disciplines and STEM subjects, which include science, technology, engineering, biology, physics, and mathematics, into effective chemistry teaching. The results of national and international studies on ECAs demonstrate that participation in extracurricular lessons provides academic advantages by developing the cognitive and practical skills of each student. It was found that the role of teachers in ECAs is significant, as they influence the effectiveness of laboratory work and increase student motivation. Problems with teaching chemistry in ECAs in different countries have been identified, such as a lack of funding for laboratory classrooms, passive students in the classroom, and a lack of self-discipline and self-control. There is a lack of practical knowledge in lessons, which makes extracurricular lessons special. It is concluded that consistently organized extracurricular activities in chemistry can significantly improve the quality of education.Item Open Access THE EFFECT OF GEOGEBRA ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN GEOMETRY LEARNING(SDU University, 2026) Abdualiyeva G.This study investigates the effect of integrating GeoGebra into geometry instruction on students’ academic performance at the high school level. The research was conducted among students in 10-th grade from “125 High School” in Kyzylorda city. The primary purpose of the study was to examine whether the use of dynamic geometry software GeoGebra contributes to improved learning outcomes in geometry. A quasi-experimental research design with pre-test and post-test measures was adopted. The participants included 35 students, who were assigned to experimental and control groups. The findings revealed that students who learned geometry through GeoGebra showed greater improvement in geometric understanding and higher post-test scores than those in the control groups. These results suggest that GeoGebra facilitates deeper comprehension of geometric concepts and supports active student engagement in the learning process. Overall, the study demonstrates that the integration of digital tools such as GeoGebra can effectively enhance geometry learning and represents a valuable auxiliary tool to traditional instructional approaches in mathematics education.Item Open Access The Impact of Case Based Learning on Students' Understanding of Real World Applications of Genetics for Better Academic Performance(SDU University, 2026) Dumanbek Sh.This study examined the impact of case-based learning (CBL) on undergraduate students' academic performance in a genetics course and explored the role of motivation across different instructional contexts. Using a quasi-experimental design, 70 students at SDU University participated in four CBL case studies delivered in two formats: theory-based seminars and laboratory-based practical classes. Academic performance was assessed through pre-tests and case-specific post-tests, while motivation was measured using Keller's Instructional Materials Motivation Survey (IMMS) based on the ARCS model. ANCOVA results showed that CBL significantly improved performance in laboratory-based cases but not in theory-based cases, indicating that CBL effectiveness is context-dependent. Hierarchical regression analysis revealed that laboratory-based CBL produced substantially greater learning gains than theory-based instruction (B = 18.517, p < 0.001, ΔR² = 0.197). Regarding motivation, Satisfaction was the only ARCS subscale significantly predicting learning gains in theory-based classes, while motivational variables did not predict outcomes in laboratory settings, where the instructional environment itself appeared sufficiently engaging. These findings suggest that CBL is most effective in contextually rich, hands-on environments and that intrinsic satisfaction plays a key motivational role in less stimulating instructional settings. The results offer practical guidance for designing active learning interventions in undergraduate genetics education.
