    Analyzing Wireless LAN Security Wireless Standards - 802.11b 802.11a 802.11g 802.11n - Which Is Best?

    This article provides an analytical overview of Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) and the security challenges associated with them. WLANs operate over radio or infrared signals and typically extend existing wired networks through access points (APs) that communicate with wireless clients. The paper examines the importance of securing WLAN environments, emphasizing that unauthorized wireless clients must be prevented from accessing the network. Technologies such as WEP and advanced encryption methods play a crucial role in strengthening wireless security. A detailed comparison of major Wi-Fi standards—802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g, and 802.11n—is presented, focusing on their bandwidth, frequency ranges, interference levels, compatibility, and overall performance. The article also contrasts Wi-Fi with alternative wireless technologies such as Bluetooth and WiMAX, outlining their intended use cases and limitations. As WLAN usage continues to grow across corporate and home networks, the need for robust encryption, authentication, and security mechanisms becomes increasingly essential.
